The Motion of light in water
The drawings are of men fast asleep. They mimic Samuel Delaney’s autobiography The Motion of Light in Water- that documents his sexual exploits in New York from 1957- 1965. Rather than a written record, mine are visual. The men will be drawn with enough likeness to be read as a memory. The colour palette is light blue and teal waves crashing against sand. The titles of each drawing will record my thoughts and impressions of these men (and how they relate to myself) in block capital letters. This typeface choice implies my judgments are facts. The titles of the drawings and text pieces will encourage the viewer to laugh, which is my coping strategy for dealing with situations that make me uncomfortable.
My intent is by through a daily visual record, to assert a normalcy of desire between men.
